A Tribute to John Papendick

On Wednesday August 14, 2024, the Borough of Waldwick was given the sad news of the passing of a good man, dedicated volunteer and resident of the Borough John Papendick.

John served on the Waldwick Volunteer Ambulance Corps (WALVAC) for 11 years. He served as 2nd Lieutenant, Captain and President.

John was a CPR Instructor, and a mentor to many of the members of the Corps. He led by example and dedicated himself to serving our residents. He was a generous person who put the needs of others before his own.

John was a good person who would do anything for you. He will be remembered for his caring and giving heart and his legacy of service to others. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Denzel Washington once said, “At the end of the day it’s not about what you have or even what you’ve accomplished… it’s about who you’ve lifted up, who you’ve made better, it’s about what you’ve given back.”

Thank you, John, for giving Waldwick and our residents your unselfish dedication and caring for all of us when we were in need.

I have ordered that all Waldwick Flags be lowered on Monday, August 19, 2024, and raised back up on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, in honor of John and his service to Waldwick.

John, you have fought the good fight, you have finished the course, you have kept the faith, May you now rest in the hands of God who will welcome you home and reward you for all the good you have done.

Rest in Peace John, and until we all meet again, may God hold you in the palm of his hands.
